Sent to all 3 Beaches Police Chiefs February 13, 2021 Good morning Chiefs, I think bicycle safety is a growing concern at the beaches. See attached FDOT graphic. I think the three police agencies at the beach could work together and hold a few in person or virtual seminars to educate the cyclist of the rules/laws and the enforcement. The growing concern I see is the 25+ mph motorized bicycles not stopping at stop signs and speeding on sidewalks. I think it is just a matter of time before accidents happen. I have been a strong advocate for dedicated multi use bicycle trails that could interconnect the entire beaches that would allow cyclists to get around the beaches and off the crowded streets. I know JB is considering multi use trails and the beach has part of the national greenway through our cities. The thought is to have all three cities work together to make sure all trails interconnect from city to city to make a nice continuous trail. I have also attached a proposed sample trail segment from 500 Atlantic Blvd to Penman Road. Just a thought bring more safety to our beaches. There are plenty of beaches bicycle store owners willing to help.

Thanks for posting on this subject. The problem, especially at town center, is really bad. But it’s just not kids on e bikes. People are walking against the do not walk signs at Atlantic and 1st. Cars are making u-turns in the middle of the street to get a parking space. Regular cyclists (those in the logo tights and helmets) are not slowing down either. What I think should happen, is to have a police officer either walk a beat or direct traffic during peak times. A presence there would certainly be beneficial.
